MURI Research:
Electromagnetic properties of photonic crystals.
Dr. Babine’s primary field of research is Nonlinear Partial Differential
Equations and their applications, in particular in Hydrodynamics and Nonlinear
Electromagnetics. His recent research in collaboration with Prof. Figotin deals
with nonlinear wave propagation in photonic crystals. Over the past 30 years he
has published more than 100 articles in major refereed journals. He wrote a
book "Iterations of Differential Operators", Gordon and Breach, New York, 1989,
and was a co-author of another book "Attractors of Evolution Equations",
North-Holland, Amsterdam, 1991. His professional experience includes 22 years
(1975-97) on the faculty at the Moscow State University of Communications
(MIIT), 1 year (1997-1998) at the UNC in Charlotte, North Carolina and 6 years
(1998-2004) at the University of California, Irvine.
